The position is responsible for ensuring legal and regulatory compliance for the Nuclear Power Programme and implementation of legal requirements, conducting compliance audits, managing, preparing and reviewing contracts:
a) Key Responsibilities
- Identifying and initiating development of regulations to cover gaps in the currentvlegal and regulatory framework on nuclear technology;
- Formulating and drafting policies, procedures and guidelines on relevant the nuclear power programme;
- Developing a proper monitoring mechanism to evaluate the compliance to various nuclear laws and regulations;
- Reviewing draft policies on all aspect of nuclear technology application;
- Attending court/judicial proceedings where the Agency is an interested party.
- Maintaining and updating the Register of Conflict of Interest;
- Ensuring that Agency’s Annual returns are promptly filed with relevant Authorities;
- Providing legal guidance on contractual and statutory obligations binding upon the Agency.
b) Academic and Professional Qualifications
Applicants must have the following:
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognized university;
- Be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
- Be a member of the Law Society in good standing;
- Hold a valid practicing certificate; and
- Certificate in supervisory course lasting not less than two (2) weeks.
c) Related Job Experience
1. Must have at least four (4) years relevant work experience.
d) Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
- Meets the requirements of leadership and integrity set out in Chapter Six of the Constitution;
- Demonstrable knowledge of the Energy Sector in Kenya;
- Demonstrable knowledge of the Nuclear Power Programme;
- Demonstrate understanding of public Service Values;
- Be detail oriented, have ability to meet deadlines while delivering on high quality results.
e) Terms of Service and Remuneration
The appointment is on permanent and pensionable terms of service. NuPEA offers salary and benefits consistent with scales approved by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
