Law Post-doctoral Fellowships at Stellenbosch University

Post-doctoral fellowships: 1 February 2024 (or as soon as possible thereafter) for a period of 1 year

The Faculty of Law has three post-doctoral fellowships available, one fellowship per Department: Private Law, Public Law and Mercantile Law. These fellowships are awarded for a year.

The primary responsibility of the successful applicants will be to participate in the research programme of the Department under supervision of the host, publish in accredited academic journals and attend academic conferences. The fellow will have the opportunity to do limited undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision; research administration tasks; and participating and assisting in the organisation of conferences and seminars.

Requirements:
  • A doctoral degree (LLD), which had to be obtained not prior to 1 January 2019 or if a later date of commencement is agreed the LLD degree must be obtained within 5 years of the commencement date of the fellowship.
  • The successful candidate may not hold any other full-time or part-time job at the same time and may not undertake any other work for remuneration.
  • Good computer skills (including familiarity with all the main programmes regarding for legal research, teaching, presenting and writing).
  • Fluent (reading, writing and speaking) English.
  • The successful candidate must be able to work full-time in Stellenbosch for the duration of the fellowship.

The post-doctoral fellowship package includes:

  • A fellowship of R250 000 for a year
  • A working space

Please note that postdoctoral fellows are not appointed as employees and are therefore not eligible for employee benefits. Postdoctoral fellowships are also awarded tax free.
