Kenfreight East Africa Limited, part of Medlog S.A., is the inland logistics arm of the MSC Group in Kenya. The company operates worldwide and provides door-to-door transport services, using a network of trucks, trains, barges, depots, and warehouses.

Kenfreight East Africa is looking for a Group Legal and Administration Manager (GLAM), who will be responsible for all legal matters and matters relating to HR, Administration, and Insurance for our Group in East Africa.

The GLAM will be responsible for monitoring documentation, overseeing the legal processes of our businesses, overseeing all insurance claim-related issues, and managing other aspects of the company’s administrative and office management.

There is considerable legal work involved.

Key Responsibilities

Legal:

  • Primary point of contact for all legal-related issues.
  • Research and analyze legal issues and advise management on the legal implications of their decisions.
  • Draft and review contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Provide legal advice and guidance to management on all legal issues.
  • Managing the statutory and regulatory corporate governance requirements for the Kenfreight Group companies, including statutory reporting, and filing where needed.
  • Preparing the relevant sections of the annual report of the companies and ensure other Legal meetings, notices, circulars, and announcements comply with all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manage litigation and dispute resolution matters.

HR + Administration:

  • Supervise and guide HR+ Administration teams of the various group companies.
  • Review HR related policies, procedures, and manuals.
  • Interact with HR team from our Head-office.

Insurance:

  • Supervise and lead Insurance claim teams
  • Lead and guide insurance and claim process in the group

Requirements

The ideal candidate for this position is a detail-oriented Manager and has strong leading abilities and a quantitative background. In addition to these skills, he/she must also be great communicator to work with, to achieve the goal of increasing productivity of the department.

It is required, that the candidate has a strong experience, preferably in an international and cooperate environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in law
  • Must be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid and current practicing certificate
  • A registered member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing.
  • At least 7 years’ experience legal practice with experience in Commercial Law and Litigation.
  • An eye for detail, strong organizational skills and able to take responsibility for own workload.
  • Demonstrated integrity and professional competence as reflected in work performance and results.
  • Strong team leadership skills and must be a team player.
  • MA or BSc in Business Administration will be considered an advantage.
  • Business acumen and hands-on.
  • Sense of initiative and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Adaptability and curiosity.
  • Drive continuous improvement.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and experience with inventory management software
  • Strong analytical skills

 

Place of work: Mombasa, Kenya, traveling is required
