Role and Context
Purpose
To provide legal support and ensure the company’s compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies, focusing on the unique challenges facing the company. This role will involve handling corporate legal matters, managing contracts, overseeing intellectual property, and ensuring that all company operations conform to the required legal standards in the countries of operation.
Qualifications
- Holder of a Law Degree from an accredited university
- Admission as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
Experience
- Over 3 years’ experience in a busy law firm or a large group of companies.
Skills/Knowledge
- Knowledge of commercial, contract, intellectual property, and labour laws
- Sound knowledge of court procedures in the Tax Tribunal
- Drafting skills
- Knowledge of labour and employment laws
- Ability to handle and respond to complaints
- Strong organisation and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strategic legal thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Attention to detail and high ethical standards
Reports To:
- Legal Manager
Key Outputs/Tasks
- Draft contracts, leases, and agreements and peruse and comment on the contracts, leases, and agreements from external counsels or entities
- Provide general guidance and support to the company in the running of its day-to-day business activities
- Continuously keep track of legal developments/changes in legislation and keep the company fully updated
- Provide advice and support to the HR department in handling labour matters
- Ensuring that the company is compliant with Data Protection laws in the countries of operation
- Monitoring of intellectual property journals in the countries of interest and ensuring that no potential infringements are allowed to pass
