Unboxing the African Legal Space for the Upcoming Lawyer
We are a woman-owned and led digital media house based in Nairobi focusing on informing, inspiring, lending voice and illuminating paths to self-actualization for the young and upcoming lawyer.
In Kenya alone, there are approximately 10,000 lawyers between the ages of 25 and 40. This is at least half of the total population of advocates admitted to the Kenyan bar. These lawyers are millennials and Gen Z and were raised to the belief that to be a lawyer is not merely a job, but the epitome of social and financial distinction. However, a law career now is hardly the same as it was 20 years ago. The emerging issues in society and the economy have created new kinds of proprietary interests, new risks and consequences and thus, completely new areas of practice.
The Lawdown Africa fields jobs and opportunities, information to help the new lawyer set up their firm, learn about different/out-of-the-box career paths and connect with those that pioneered.
We create content that gives young lawyers the exposure they need to stand out as experts in their chosen areas of practice as they educate the public.
