International Justice Mission is Hiring a Senior Assistant, Casework

International Justice Mission is a global organization that protects people in poverty from violence. IJM partners with local authorities in 33 offices in 23 countries to combat slavery, police abuse of power, violence against women and children, and other forms of abuse against people who are poor. IJM works to rescue and restore victims, hold perpetrators accountable, and help strengthen public justice systems. Started in 2001, IJM’s office in Kenya works to combat police abuse of power against people who are poor, as well as sexual violence against children. Inspired by God’s call to love all people and to seek justice for people under oppression, IJM works with local authorities to protect people in poverty from violence, without regard to religious background and beliefs or any other factor and seeks to work alongside all people of goodwill.

1. SENIOR ASSISTANT, CASEWORK

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Justice System Interventions(JSI), the Snr. Assistant, Casework will provide legal and administrative support to the Justice System Interventions department. This position is responsible for working with the legal and investigative teams to facilitate effective casework administration. The Snr. Assistant, Casework will make follow-up on refferals and cases, provide secretarial functions to the case determination panel, conduct legal research and case analysis, extract judgements, decrees and orders from the courts, act as the liason person with external counsel, update the JSI records in the JDS and generally supports the legal and investigative teams.

Responsibilities

  •  Provide all administrative support and coordinate casework including by making follow-ups on referrals and cases to ensure action points are concluded within set timelines to realize speedy admission and conclusion of cases.
  • Support program attorneys with legal research, filing of court documentation, extraction of orders, decrees, judgements, conducting case analysis for referrals with a view of advising on admissibility.
  • Provide administrative services to the case determination panel including keeping a record of the minutes, coordinate meetings, communicating decisions of the panel and process appeals.
  • Updating Justice System Interventions events, activities, and information on the justice data system.
  • Participate in advocacy forums for communities around community justice centers to increases social demand for survivors to file complaints against police abuse of power.
  • Conduct induction trainings for new Justice Centers and other Community Based Organizations on IJM-K case intake criteria and referral mechanism.
  • Any other tasks that may be assigned by the Senior Manager, Justice System Interventions (JSI)

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in law
  • Working knowledge in legal research
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Word and Excel.
