Legal Officer at KEPHIS

a) Job Specifications

Duties and responsibilities: –

  1. Preparing legal briefs on case files;
  2. Drafting of agreements, contracts, leases and maintaining records of such transactions;
  3. Liaising with external legal counsel on legal matters affecting the Corporation.
  4. Verifying all contracts, agreements, leases in which the Corporation enters into to ensure compliance;
  5. Undertaking research on assigned legal issues;
  6. Vetting and verification of documents before execution by authorized representatives of the Corporation;
  7. Preparing witnesses and the evidence as well as presenting the same in court while kee ping an updated record of all court cases;
  8. Collaborating and corresponding with external advocates on all pending court cases;
  9. Attending to internal company queries of legal nature in the facilitation of normal business;
  10. Responding to inquiries regarding specific case files;
  11. Initiating payment of legal fees for external lawyers;
  12. Undertake the legal review of legislative framework of KEPHIS;
  13. Ensuring proper documentation of all legal Documents;
  14. Attending court hearings where the Corporation is an interested party.

b) Persons Specification

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a university recognized in Kenya;
  2. Post Graduate Diploma in Law;
  3. Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
  4. Current Practicing Certificate;
  5. Membership to Law Society of Kenya;
  6. Proficiency in ICT;
  7. Interpersonal, communication and analytical skills;
  8. Knowledge of public service regulations and procedures;
  9. Be a team player, high degree of integrity, self-driven, honest and ability to work independently and meet deadlines;
  10. Be conversant with the laws of the country and the common practice of the field;
  11. Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft office packages.
  12. Problem-solving skills;
  13. Good communication, data analysis, report writing and presentation skills;
  14. Compliance with chapter six of the constitution.
