Senior Legal Officer Job Grade CRV 6 Ref: CRVWWDA/SLO/20/2024/25 

1. Job Purpose

The Legal officers are responsible for providing secretariat services to the Board and the overall coordination and management of the legal function at the Agency. An officer at this level will work under the supervision and guidance of a senior manager.

2. Job Specifications

Duties and responsibilities at this level entail:-

1. Preparing legal opinions;

2. Providing and interpreting legal information;

3. Conducting training and disseminating appropriate legal information to staff;

4. Reviewing and drafting contracts, agreements internal policies and ensuring that they are in compliance with statutory or legal requirements;

5. Monitoring and reporting non-compliance issues; handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries;

6. Participating in policy development and advising on legal policy issues;

7. Coordinating stakeholders’ consultations;

8. Ensuring compliance with principles and values of good governance;

9. Implementing strategic plans and objectives in respect to the legal function;

10. Providing legal risk reviews and providing legal advice;

11. Reviewing ongoing cases and advising management accordingly;

12. Handling litigation, legal disputes and inquiries; and

13. Establishing an alternative dispute resolution program and building capacity in this area.

Person Specification

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have: –

1. Cumulative service period of six (6) years relevant work experience three (3) of which should have been in the grade of Legal Officer I or in a comparable position;

2. Bachelors of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized Institution;

3. Post graduate Diploma in Law(Advocates Training Programme)from the Kenya School of Law;

4. Membership to the Law Society of Kenya (LSK);

5. Be admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya; and

6. Proficiency in computer applications.
