JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Compliance management: – review all relevant statutory laws and regulations, identify the legal risks, assist the company to navigate them and provide viable solutions.
- Advisory: – Advise various departments on the rights, risks and obligations to limit the legal exposure of the organization; Review and where necessary prepare policies, procedures and company programs; Monitor and oversee implementation of the said procedures by various departments.
- Legal documents management: – Negotiate, draft, review and execute legal documents (i.e.Contracts, NDAs, Leases etc.) and ensure the company’s legal interests are protected; End to end management of contracts including execution, dating, sign off and safe custody; Maintain a record of all contracts and ensure to update the requisite departments on any contractual terms and obligations.
- Litigation management: Representation of the company in court sessions; preparation of demand letters and responses to demand letters addressed to the company; follow up with external counsels to deliver value for legal fees, Preparation of detailed instructions to external counsels; review pleadings and witness statements to ensure filing within the required timelines; Prepare and maintain litigation files and records; negotiation and settlement of legal fees as per the ARO and ensuring to save costs for the organization;Maintain and update litigation status report and share the same with the M.D; Ensure pretrial briefings and court attendance by witnesses.
- Stakeholder management: – Develop and maintain external relationships with external contacts (e.g. external lawyers, registrars, regulatory bodies, county governments, Kenya police, etc.).
- Collaborate with the company’s joint stakeholders to provide support to the business.
- Provide general support to the Company when called upon to do so and any other duties assigned by the management.
EDUCATION AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor Degree in Laws
- Member of the Law Society of Kenya with a current practicing certificate. Relevant post-admission experience in corporate/commercial law practice, experience in the manufacturing sector is an added advantage.
