Telkom Kenya is Hiring an Internal Counsel

Telkom is a technology company that provides integrated solutions to individuals, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), Government and large corporates in Kenya, drawing from a diverse solutions suite that includes voice, data/connectivity, digital financial services, as well as network services. Powered by its vast fiber optic infrastructure, it is also a major provider of wholesale carrier-to-carrier traffic, within the country and the region.
Role Purpose:
To provide support and guidance to the company by making sure the company’s operations and activities conform to the legal requirements in order to mitigate legal exposure.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
° Engage with the business to identify need for support and to understand business opportunities and challenges.
° Advise on changes in the legal framework within which the company operates as and when such changes occur.
° Review commercial contracts to secure strategic benefits for the company and to protect the interests of the business.
° Tend to the business’ litigation matters and prepare relevant court documents.
° Execute role responsibilities in a cost effective manner.
° Provide legal support and advice in the negotiation, and conclusion of contracts.
° To ensure that external legal counsel is briefed timeously and thoroughly when appropriate.
° Stay abreast of best practice through personal development.
Academic background & Professional Knowledge:
° Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized reputable University.
° Diploma from Kenya School of Law.
° Be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
° 3 or more years’ experience in legal practice in a busy law firm or as legal counsel for a large
corporate.
° Extensive knowledge of the laws of Kenya with a focus on law that impacts directly on the telecommunications, and mobile financial services.
Here Are The Skills We Are Looking For:
° Legal writing – drafting of contracts, legal opinions etc.
° Legal advisory – ability to analyze legal issues, identify and evaluate solutions and provide legal opinion to the business units.
° Litigation management skills.
° Legal research and data gathering.
° Legal risk management.
° Document management – ability to manage large volumes of legal documents and create effective structures for storage and retrieval.
° Influencing and Negotiating.
° Good work ethic and infallible confidentiality of sensitive information.
° An ability to convey complex legal issues in easily understandable language.
